Welcome to our family run, free house. We like good fun and welcome children and even dogs in the friendly atmosphere. We have real ale and good pub food at reasonable prices. We serve a traditional sunday lunch as well as food on other days too.
The name, ‘The Gate Inn’, comes from the toll gate that once stood here which was deeply resented by the locals and may have been the first target of the Rebecca Riots in 1839-43. Many toll-gates on the roads of Wales were operated by trusts which were supposed to maintain and improve the roads, funding this from tolls. However, many trusts charged extortionate tolls and diverted the money raised to other uses. Twm Carnabwth and his fellow rioters dressed as women, Rebecca and her children, would break down toll gates under cover of night.
